Leather
craft is a traditional business. Though changes were brought about
in this traditional business and in the technology involved, only
a few families could benefit from these changes.
In view of the large number of families involved in leather trading
as well as the availability of prospective market, it was decided
to setup a centre on the Agra - Bombay National Highway so that
traditional leather craft items could bemanufactured using modern
technology. The quality of leather shoes made by craftsmen is ensured
by the use
of morden equipment and the income generated from this improves
the standard of living of the craftsmen families.
MANAGEMENT OF THE CENTRE
The centre is managed by a committee which includes the beneficiaries,
concerned civil officers, people's representatives and officals
from leather industry. The expenses of running and maintenance of
the centre and its machinary is met from the rent charged on the
workshed as well as charges decided by the beneficiaries for using
the General Facilities Centre.
