HISTORY
OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS
Dhar town became the capital of Paramara kingdom
when Vairi Singh, at the end of the ninth century moved to Dhar
from Ujjain. Another place in the District, Mandu remained the seat
of Malwa kingdom under Hohangshah Ghori. Under Akbar Dhar again
became the chief town of a mahal in the Mandu sarkar of the subah
of Malwa. From 1732 to 1948 Dhar was the seat of a Maratha State
under the Panwars. After the Merger of State, the District was carved
from Kukshi Badnawar, Dhar, Mandu and Dharampuri tahsils of the
erstwhile Dhar State, Sardarpur and Manabar (Bagh-Bakaner Pargana)
tahsils of the erstwhile Gwalior State and Nisarpur tahsil of former
Nimar District of Indore State.
Since then the District and tahsils have remained practically unchanged
except for the few miner changes in Badnawar and Sardarpur tahsils.
Administrative Sub-Divisions
The District is divided into seven tahsils
consists of 4 revenue divisions of Dhar, Badnawar, Manawar and Kukshiis
divided into five tahsils, namely Sardarpur and Kukshi. Police Stations
are located at Dhar, Sagar, Sadalpur, Nalchha, Badnawar, Dharampuri,
Gandhwani, Kukshi, Bagh, Dahi, Tanda, Kanwan, Sardarpur, Amjhera,
Rajod and Manawar.
